Light, golf and design on the runway at Poznań Airport

Light, golf and design on the Poznań Airport runway
There are projects in which light serves purely a functional purpose. There are also those in which it becomes part of the experience, creates atmosphere and gives a space an emotional dimension. PKO Bank Polski Night Longest Drive Poznań Airport was one such event.
On 9 May, the space of Poznań-Ławica Airport became the venue for the world’s first night-time Longest Drive competition played on an airport runway. The spectacular setting, sporting excitement and the light trails of flying balls created a unique image of an event that brought together the worlds of sport, architecture and contemporary design.
The illu brand was also involved in bringing the project to life. In the event space, we presented selected lighting collections that helped shape the character of the event and emphasised its modern, almost cinematic visual setting.
Light as an element of spatial experience
From the very beginning of illu, we have believed that light matters beyond its functional purpose. It is what creates mood, influences emotions and shapes the way a place is perceived. At Poznań Airport, light became one of the key elements creating the event’s atmosphere – subtly guiding visitors through the event zones and highlighting the unique character of the night-time competition.
As part of the project, we presented luminaires from the Messaggio collection by Dorota Koziara and Snob models designed by Marcin Szczelina.

Messaggio – light shaping atmosphere
The Messaggio collection, designed by Dorota Koziara – one of Poland’s most acclaimed designers – was created for the conscious composition of light within space. Its strength lies in the ability to build individual lighting scenarios and create compositions tailored to the character of the place.
The diversity of forms and broad arrangement possibilities make the collection ideal for designing multidimensional spaces – spaces in which light is not an addition, but an integral element of architecture and the emotional perception of the interior.
During the event at the airport, Messaggio luminaires created a distinctive atmosphere in the event zones, highlighting the project’s modern, design-led character.
Snob – simplicity that builds character
The presentation was complemented by Snob luminaires designed by Marcin Szczelina. This is a project based on the idea of simplicity, durability and timeless design, in which light becomes a subtle yet distinctive element that shapes the character of the space.
Snob does not seek to dominate the interior. Instead, it creates an atmosphere based on considered design and harmony between light, material and the surroundings.
Around light
illu’s presence at PKO Bank Polski Night Longest Drive Poznań Airport was a natural extension of the brand’s “around light” philosophy. We believe that light can be more than a functional furnishing element – it can build emotion, tell the story of a place and influence the way we experience space.
The event on the runway at Poznań Airport showed that light can become an integral part of the experience – both in interior architecture and in projects created at the intersection of design, technology and emotion.
